Abstract
A novel method to analyze the behavior of surface transverse waves (STWs) in periodic arrays consisting of massive, metallic electrodes with arbitrary electrode profile on piezoelectric substrates with general anisotropy is presented. To include a rather wide class of problems, a piezoelectric substrate coated by an inhomogeneous layer with periodic material constitution is treated. It is found that in a period grating as the ratio d /p increases the dispersion curve acquires high-frequency branches in addition to the one already known from earlier studies of this problem
