Abstract
In 1982, the local authorities of the City of Toulouse began investigations to improve the safety of pedestrians, particularly on pedestrians crossings outside intersections. New solutions have then been developed concerning the control of these crossing by traffic lights, starting from existing equipments and rules. A specific equipment, better suited to the specific need of pedestrian protection on street crossing, has then been developed, in collaboration with the French Ministry of Transports (Direction de la Securite et de la Circulation Routiere). The equipment include: signals for drivers indicating pedestrian crossing, and the pedestrian lights with green-and red-main lights and an additional third yellow light
