Abstract
This paper presents the physical & network performance of a novel all-optical multi-protocol optical switch (MPOS). The MPOS segregates the different incoming traffics into their individual classes and routing is performed according to their classes. Furthermore, the MPOS also employs the usage of cross gain modulation (XGM) and cross phase modulation (XPM) in SOAs to achieve all-optical routing, multicasting and regeneration at 10 Gbps. Simulation and experimental results show significant improvements on traffic performance versus conventional IP routing and also an error free 1-to-16 multicast and regeneration were achieved as well.
