Abstract
There are many parameters peculiar to cameras which require special test patterns for them to be measured. These test patterns often vary between broadcasters so it would be difficult to arrive at a standard. Also, full automation is not possible because of the need to physically place test patterns in front of the camera so that the whole transducer including lens, optical splitter and electronics can be tested. Measurements on cameras are particularly time consuming and therefore not cost effective. This situation invites automation and the author has designed the basis of a system which goes some way in solving the problem. He describes this system for automatic measurement of television camera performance. He also describes additions which have been made so that colorimetry measurements can also be carried out
