  • Abstract
For as long as humanity has lived on the Earth, Nature has taken care of our wastes. Through science and technology, we have discovered more and more ways to use energy. Our whole civilisation has been built upon easy access to energy. We are now receiving direct feedback from the Earth in the form of global warming, with all that this implies. As consumers, there are a hundred things we can do to save energy. What is lacking is the feedback system that can tell us how we are doing, and encourage us to do better. The author argues that the intelligent electronic electricity meter can provide this feedback. It may be just a small green box with flashing lights and digital displays, but the information it can give us may, quite literally, save the Earth
