Abstract
Recently, building streaming overlay network without any loss of the scalability has been a challenging issue. Although there have been many research efforts to optimize the overlay structure for scalability, much success has not been noticed. One of the reasons is that the nodes inside the NAT boundary are excluded when the overlay structure is constructed. This paper presents a streaming overlay network protocol with private network support, DONet-P, which extends the DONet protocol via distributed hole punching algorithm in order to support the nodes inside the NAT boundary. For scalability, we have modified the original centralized hole punching algorithm into distributed version. The benchmarking results show that DONet-P is more scalable than original DONet and shows better performance in spite of minimum overheads for additional control messages.
