  • Abstract
Predominantly undergraduate institutions with engineering are teaching-focused institutions with curricula that provide concise but core fundamental engineering knowledge to its constituents. Such institutions may have the sufficient number of faculty members and courses to cover core knowledge areas in electrical and computer engineering but may not offer the wide expanse of courses that bigger institutions with graduate programs usually do. This paper shows how an undergraduate can be exposed to two major applications of signal processing at considerable depth in a single one-semester course that may require a typical signals & systems course as a prerequisite or, perhaps, a DSP core course as a prerequisite or co-requisite. The idea is to introduce college undergraduates to a thorough treatment of applied signal processing without sacrificing a number of allotted electives on the DSP side of the ECE curriculum. This allows the undergraduate student to study other facets of a typical ECE curriculum but also get an in-depth treatment of applied DSP.
