Abstract
Small angle measurement devices such as resolvers and synchros depend, to a large extent, upon the close control of their magnetic field distribution for their high performance. The authors investigate the flux distribution in the end regions of such devices and consider methods of improving resolver and synchro design using numerical methods and computer modelling. An algorithm specifically developed for resolver and synchro analysis is used to show that a large flux density exists in the end regions, caused by the axial fringing and leakage flux becoming trapped in the end laminations
