PALplus in the home

The introduction of PALplus will enable the consumer to enjoy wide aspect ratio pictures from more sources. The implementation of PALplus in TVs and VCRs and their interconnection are described. Utilising PALplus in the TV receiver means that in addition to the new 16:9 format picture tubes, improved video signal processing as well as display up-conversion will be possible. In the VCR, the requirements to record and reproduce PALplus picture quality must be guaranteed to make full use of the system. Two methods are discussed for recording the PALplus signals. For both the TV and VCR, special signalling data will be included in the PALplus signals to allow them to easily detect the type of signal being received so that an optimum signal processing can be automatically selected
