Abstract
Examines how ISDN techniques can assist in the construction of national and international wide area networks, capable of supporting all forms of voice, data and image communication. To achieve this objective it is necessary to understand why and how business have constructed private networks to recognise what benefits they have provided and to examine their current and future functionality. Within this context it is relevant to examine which ISDN recommendations and standards are applicable in the private network domain. This is particularly appropriate with respect to D channel signalling systems and to the relationship between the UK de-facto standards of DPNSS and DASS and the future international standards embodied within Q.Sig and DSS1
