Abstract
Custom silicon has become an accepted means of carrying out much of the power device control in AC drives since, very often, it is the only economical way of synthesizing complex pulse output patterns. The power devices in a DC drive require relatively simple control sequences but it is possible to clearly demonstrate that digital control using a moderate level of logic integration can be economically applied. The authors describe the use of large scale integration in implementing a digital phase locks loop based firing pulse generator peripheral for a DC drive. By way of convenience it is shown also that other ancillary functions can be integrated with this in a single component
