Abstract
As the wireless technology evolves into the third generation (3G), more bandwidth is available. Because higher bandwidth guarantees better QoS, multimedia services on mobile phones boom, such as video telephony, video share, mobile phone TV, etc. However, data services other than Email and WAP Explorer are not as popular as multimedia services. One possible reason is that there is no unified platform or protocol which can handle and manage the services. After briefly introducing SIP and peer-to-peer (P2P) network architecture, this paper proposes a P2P file- sharing application on mobile phones using SIP as control protocol and then elaborates the modifications that should be made to SIP in order to meet the requirements of that application.
