  • Abstract
Provisioning the network with sufficient lifetime is a key requirement in many sensor network applications. In order to save energy in densely deployed sensor network often a subset of so called redundant nodes periodically kept off while the other nodes in the vicinity working on behalf of the sleeping nodes. Preserving the adequate communication and sensing coverage throughout the entire network becomes challenging in such scenario. This work considers the various issues on coverage control for conserving energy of individual nodes thus indirectly increasing the network lifetime. Based upon the analysis a mobility assisted coverage control scheme is presented. The approach utilizes the fact that mobility assisted neighborhood probing enhances the sensing capability of individual nodes without substantial synchronization overhead among its neighbors.
