Abstract
State-of-the-art controlled reception pattern antennas (CRPAs) have poor low elevation resolution due to the planar nature of the antenna array. In a jamming environment, this can result in communication loss of low elevation GPS satellites, especially for low elevation interference. These limitations can be overcome by utilizing the hemispherical coverage of a spherical cap antenna array. In addition to improving low elevation performance, spherical cap antenna arrays are conformal to many aircraft surfaces and can reduce planar mounting surface area requirements.
