  • Abstract
This paper discusses the problems of the modern Internet and prospects for its future development. The paper proposes to gradually phase off IP as the core packet networking protocol, move from fundamentally flat addressing and routing with numerous add-on improvements to recursive addressing and routing by developing Ethernet technology. The goal is to meet user network connectivity needs on top of a Carrier Grade transport network. The paper shows how the idea is being implemented in an Ethernet based Internet architecture and points out several deployment scenarios.
