  • Abstract
This paper introduces a modem module for a new Ku broadband mobile communications system that offers simple satellite-tracking antennas, named variable polarization frequency division multiplexing (VPFDM). It allows each user to freely utilize multi-carrier frequency slots of V/H dual polarization. Since a VPFDM user uses V/H polarizations simultaneously, he/she doesn´t share the same frequency band with other users, so that no cross-polarization interference can occur among users. This means that the requirement of polarization-tracking at the user earth station antenna can be abolished yielding more compact and economical user earth stations. This paper overviews VPFDM and details the key technologies of the VPFDM modem and a performance evaluation.
