  • Abstract
The paper shows that existence of photonic bandgap (PBG) in a disordered structures called hyperuniform photonic structures . The common feature of hyperuniform photonic structures is that they are derived from hyperuniform point patterns. Hyperuniform point patterns are those whose number variance within a spherical sampling window of radius R (in d dimensions) grows more slowly than the window volume for large R. This classification includes all crystals and quasicrystals, as well as a special subset of disordered structures. Due to their compatibility with general boundary constraints, photonic band gap structures based on disordered hyperuniform patterns can provide a fexible optical insulator platform for planar optical circuits.
