Abstract
An approach to intelligent monitoring called AIM and its experimental model are presented. This approach constitutes a departure from conventional methodologies. The capabilities of the approach are described, and an application of AIM involving the monitoring of a file access is discussed. The development of this approach still remains in its early stages. Although a more detailed implementation based on the initially constructed model is under development, the major efforts are being shifted to represent the temporal behavior of a monitored system through the framework of dynamically constructing representational models
