Abstract
Experimental methods such as resonant photoionisation, potential-depth control, and real-time imaging for ion chain preparation consisting of Ca+ and In+ in prescribed arrangements are reported. The set-up consists of optical cooling in a linear radiofrequency trap, light sources and an image-intensified CCD camera. Time evolution of the fluorescence profile along the trap axis is observed at 397 nm.
