  • Abstract
We propose a photon-hole (PH) source, which consists of a three-level atom resonantly irradiated by a laser (weak coherent beam). The electron is excited from the ground state to the upper level through a weak coupling constant g1. It then makes a fast radiative transition g2Gtg1 to a metastable level g3Ltg2, followed by slow decay to the ground state, possibly by a nonradiative transition. Such a system could be implemented by using Raman scattering. The derivation of the photon statistics of the spontaneously emitted light has been fully solved in such a configuration, but the transmitted light statistics have attracted no attention. It is shown that the detection of the spontaneous emission events results in the shaping of a localized PH in the transmitted beam. Their respective locations are entangled, even though their individual locations are undetermined.
