Abstract
An effort is made to define the notion of `space factor,´ an important parameter influencing the characteristics of all film high voltage power capacitors. It is shown that the space factor is only determined by the winding factor and press factor. A method for calculating the space factor at every point of an element is given. The relations between space factor and several important electric characteristics of the capacitor are presented. A `suitable´ space factor is not a constant value, but a function that varies with film thickness, film thickness increment rate, etc
