  • Abstract
The authors demonstrate that anechoic chambers can be properly adapted on a cost effective basis to meet performance requirements which can include site attenuation performance criteria, mandatory for open site measurements. The main motivation for this approach is the fact that within the ESA (European Space Agency) a data base is being set up for EMC test-data for projects related to spacecraft and large space systems. It is of extreme importance that the data collected in the various facilities are of the same quality in order to be correlated. Therefore it is necessary to reduce the delta factor between the facilities to less than +/-4 dB. The authors discuss the design and construction of a shielded anechoic chamber with two operating rooms. The operating range of the facility and test equipment covers the frequency range from 20 Hz to 40 GHz, which qualifies this facility for all EMC/ESD tests to be conducted on scientific satellites (low frequency) and communication satellites (high RF power)
