Abstract
The trend with new generation kWh-meters is that they are no longer measuring just straightforward kilowatt-hours. More and more complex functions are incorporated into kWh meters. This calls for meter test equipment that is able to check and verify all the functions and features of the kWh-meter and its complex tariff attachments. Modern meter testing equipment should be able to check, besides the basic function of measuring the accuracy of the metering system, the correct function of all the additional built-in functions such as testing of all possible tariff functions, and testing of all the switching functions that permit selection of the tariff functions. The authors describe a test system which is able to carry out these functions. The basic system characteristics, system layout, tariff metering read out device, hardware, and software, communications definition and ripple control are described
