Abstract
A detailed description is given of a rigorous procedure that incorporates both lossy and imperfectly matched diodes. As an example, it is shown how to choose the values of the design parameters of a phase reflection modulator, an important component in the imbedding networks. Simple design equations are derived which include mismatched and lossy diode characteristics. These are developed using the invariant properties of the diode´s Q factor and hyperbolic geometry on the Smith Chart
