Abstract
Parallel optical interconnections are of interest for a range of applications from wavelength division multiplexing to switching and processing. The coupling of light into arrays of fibres can be addressed in a number of different ways. The authors discuss the performance of arrays of lenses formed by melting photoresist. A set of experimental measurements on the coupling efficiencies obtainable using refractive microlenses have been obtained. These are in line with the coupling efficiencies calculated using the theory
