  • Abstract
    The interconnection of IEEE 802 local area networks (CSMA/CD, token bus, token ring) by transparent bridges is standardised in IEEE 802.1d (MAC Bridges). This specifies a general method for bridging, which allows the LAN user to increase geographic coverage or the number of stations, improve total throughput, or communicate between stations attached to LANs of different types-independent of the protocols in use
