  • Abstract
The authors describe a computerized system for the construction of face composites, which covers witness interviewing, the composite construction, and a mugsearch using the resulting composite. The system has three major stages: In the first, the witness chooses the photos most similar to the suspect from amongst a large album. In the second stage, the computer presents the witness with various average combinations of the photos, to chose the best representation of the suspect (either one of the original photos or one of the averages). In the third stage, the witness uses image editing techniques such as cutting and pasting and drawing in order to further improve the composite
