Abstract
Wideband characterization of mobile communication systems requires the determination of scatterers in the real three dimensional terrain. This determination is done either by measurements using channel sounder techniques or by 3D wave propagation models applying ray-tracing techniques. The principles of these techniques are described briefly. Furthermore, the paper stresses the methodology of comparison. Results from a hilly terrain gained with these two methods at a frequency of 275.75 MHz conclude the paper. This frequency is selected with respect to a digital audio broadcast application, which is scheduled to be operated in this frequency range
