An application of networked real-time databases in nuclear instrumentation

Over the past six years, four Environmental Monitoring Systems have been installed at the Atomic Energy Authority´s site at Dounreay in areas handling radioactive materials. The systems purpose is the collection and data processing of signals from a large number of radiation monitors and ancillary detectors and the display of the data to plant operators and Health Physicists. Their essential function is twofold: as a surveillance system with alarm level monitoring of all monitors, and as a short term data logger, recording activity levels on all monitors
