Abstract
Overhead lines are very susceptible to faults because of the exposure of the system equipment to the extremes of weather and environmental conditions. Fault finding on 11 kV overhead lines is often extremely time consuming due to the remote locations and difficulty of access for personnel. The author investigates pole mounted fault passage indicators (FPI). The FPI is mounted on the pole some distance below the conductors. When a change in status of the magnetic field radiating from the overhead line conductor, caused by a downstream faults, occurs the FPI is triggered. The indicator enables quick identification of the passage of the fault
