Abstract
A novel technique for the detection of ultrasound contrast agents is described. The particular signature that occurs for encapsulated types of contrast agents, at high acoustical power settings, is associated with the release of free gas bubbles. Free gas bubbles show superior scattering characteristics compared to encapsulated gas bubbles. By correlating the response of two acoustic pulses before and after the release of gas bubbles, the ultrasound contrast agent can be exclusively detected
