Abstract
The authors examine signal processing that needs to be carried out by the sub-block that interfaces the telepoint base-station with the PSTN (public services telephone network). They address the functions of the telepoint system, followed by a discussion of the voice band functions to be processed. The specific functions are discussed briefly with the integration between these functions. They examine the cost effective implementation of some of these functions using a general purpose DSP (digital signal processor) and conclude on how the future development of these functions can be improved to provide system enhancements and cost reductions
