Abstract
The capital cost of modern power stations is such that it is essential that they operate at maximum output for as much as the time as possible, to optimise revenue. At present, routine maintenance is carried out on all of the strategic items of a plant in order to ensure that these are available at all times. The author looks at the ways that ScottishPower intends to prevent in-service failures using on-line diagnosis and on-line fault finding
