  • Abstract
From an assisted living environment installed in 2007, real life data are available to draw conclusions on how to assist persons living there. Reasoning is based on a large set of raw data obtained by home automation sensors. The first important step is to condense the large but rather unspecific raw data information into more significant information. Two different approaches are introduced and compared to each other. It is shown how they can be used and that either of them has its own advantages and drawbacks in terms of short- and long-term analyses. The evaluation of the activity and inactivity was the base of an automated health monitoring system that allows seniors to live in their accustomed homes safely and that gives peace of mind to their relatives.
