Abstract
Discusses EMC aspects of the architectural and detailed design of a safety-critical logic system for the protection of industrial processes. The processes concerned are those used for chemicals manufacture, oil extraction, and nuclear power. These processes involve a risk of catastrophic failure, with potential for loss of life and loss of assets in the event of failure of the control system. It is therefore usual to `back-up´ the regular control system with a specialised `emergency shutdown system´ using electronic logic
