Abstract
Optimum performance of a network configuration corresponds to a configuration which minimises the number of sites required to provide a target service probability over the network coverage area. The purpose of this paper is to find the optimum network configuration for three alternative network layouts and to analyse and compare the performance of these layouts with the optimum configuration. Two of the selected layouts are widely used in cellular networks and the third has been selected as an alternative layout potentially providing performance improvement. The results indicate that all of the presented network layouts have comparable performance in nominal conditions used in the analysis and that usage of different network layouts could be considered more widely in practical networks
