Abstract
This paper describes the high voltage transients are generated in a system, when a 6.6 kV, 400 kW motor is operated through vacuum circuit breaker and can also explain the power failure of the motor. A model has been developed and simulated by using MATLAB. From the result of the simulation, it is observed that the distribution of the voltages provide a greater insight into the surge voltages actually transmitted in the coils. In this study various cable lengths have been considered. For shorter cable length the magnitude of switching transients is higher as compare to the large cable length.
