Abstract
Three automatic tuning methods: manually initiated Ziegler-Nichols based tuning; waveform analysis based tuning; and parametric self tuning controllers based on least squares identification are each applied to two industrial processes: a plastic-on-wire multi-zone extruder barrel; and a laboratory furnace. The aim of the paper is to provide a comparative evaluation of the three approaches to self-tuning temperature control
