Abstract
We present a system that visually monitors the face of a driver and finds the location of the driver´s eyes in real time. Our system addresses the actual environment within the interior of a moving car and uses a consumer CCD camera mounted on the dashboard in front of the driver. We develop an eye detection method that is based on segmenting the head space from the image and then using edge detection and template matching to create eye templates online, and brightness filters to obtain the location of the eyes within the head space. We tested our real-time system in thousands of frames using various subjects, head and facial motions, and lighting conditions and report our preliminary results
