Abstract
Describes the effects of structural movements under wind loads on the performance of terrestrial microwave links and gives guidance on maximum acceptable design deflections. The random movements of structures under wind loads are compared to the antenna performance and the effects of any losses of signal on the system performance. These losses are compared to the CCIR Recommendations for analogue and digital radio links and with British Telecom´s operating experience with losses from all causes. Although this will vary with the system used, well designed digital and analogue radio links are found to be almost equally sensitive to information losses due to wind deflection. Suitable deflection criteria are suggested
