  • Abstract
Sets out some of the main principles that should govern the engineer who is associated with the offer of an expert system that is intended to perform an important task. By `important´ the paper means one where someone could suffer financial loss or injury if the system does not perform as well as it should, or as well as the user thinks it should. The paper is written from the viewpoint of an engineer who has taken a close interest in legal liability matters, but who is not a lawyer
