Abstract
The optimum design of FIR (finite impulse response) filters is formulated as a quadratic program. An algorithm is described for the efficient use of computer memory and for guaranteed convergence to the solution of the original problem. Examples illustrating the design of decimation filters for sigma-delta A/D converters using the new technique are also presented. The quadratic programming approach is more flexible and often yields better results than the previously reported least-squares design approaches
