Abstract
This paper describes work currently underway on the use of a functional programming language as the basis for an experimental silicon compiler system. Functional languages are those that describe computations in terms of the application of side-effect free functions to data, which may itself consist of functions. The basis for the work is the language `Sticks & Stones´ originally developed in Edinburgh for studies in the use of net-algebras in specifying VLSI layout networks
