Abstract
A user interface is required to match the users perception of the system. Careful design of a system can help by influencing the users perception of the system towards a single common perception for all users. If the system is functionally simple to understand then the task is easier. With a large and complex system such as an IPSE the task is anything but easy. The author looks at how the user interface of one particular IPSE, ISTAR, has developed and how the user is helped by addressing the constraints imposed by these factors is helped
