Abstract
In this paper we analyse a series of pre-and post-event images for the 2004 Tsunami in south-western Sri Lanka coast. The analysis is aimed at locating and extracting buildings in high-resolution optical satellite images acquired before and after the event, in order to compare results and find which buildings have collapsed or otherwise been seriously damaged. The detection and extraction of buildings is carried out based on a software suite developed within our research group, conceived to extract significant elements and objects from satellite images. Results are evaluated and some examples are shown visually.
