Abstract
The emergence of the GaAs MESFET device as a viable microwave active element in oscillators has encouraged the development of more effective design procedures. Oscillator design requires a means of characterising the nonlinear active element as well as a procedure to synthesise the external linear circuit to meet the design specifications. Nonlinear microwave CAD packages available on the market are essentially restricted to circuit analysis problems. A computer aided procedure is presented for MESFET microwave large-signal oscillator synthesis using nonlinear analysis in the time-domain, in conjunction with optimisation, to identify the best operating conditions for the active device. From these optimum conditions, external circuits-either lumped or distributed, may be designed
