  • Abstract
A slot-fed stacked microstrip patch antenna, suitable for monolithic phased-array structures and possessing an operating bandwidth of 18% has been developed. The design parameters of the slot-coupled stacked microstrip antenna are the aspect ratio of the two patches, thickness of the dielectric layers, spacing between the patches, dielectric constant of the substrates, and dimensions, as well as position, of the rectangular coupling aperture. It is found that the best bandwidth is obtained when the dimensions of the top patch are approximately equal to those of the bottom patch. The optimum slot dimensions are found to be larger than the slot dimensions which provide a good match for a single patch, i.e., with the top patch removed.<>
