Abstract
This paper discusses the various techniques used to protect a satellite communication terminal against intentional electromagnetic interference. The SATCOM terminal employ miniaturised active and logic devices which can withstand energy up to 10-6 joules only. However, the energy density released by nuclear/non nuclear sources is reported to be 0.4 joules at the boundary of deposition region and is capable to upset or damage the communication terminal. Efforts have been made to incorporate all possible protection mechanism so that the communication terminal remains unaffected under worst scenario.
