  • Abstract
    Plants are hard to simulate in a realistic way because of their complexity. In this paper, we design and develop an interactive plant simulation system with OpenGL as the graphics interface and MFC as the framework. Our system aims to create an easy-used platform to design and layout plant conveniently. The system uses digital elevation model (DEM) to create terrain. It applies parametric and self-similar fractal algorithm to model plants. Furthermore, the color model selection method is proposed to pick up, layout and edit plants with the assistance of the interaction between mouse and 3D environment. Our system also provides some methods to speed computation up and save resource. We show realistic plants, and demonstrate examples of plant editing.
