Abstract
Online proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller tuning can be effectively implemented using the rule-based expert system approach. Results are presented on the optimum and nearly invariant properties of a PID controller. An implementation of the results using an expert system approach is then presented together with some results using a simulation of the industrial process. Finally, the hardware interface of the expert system to the process is described
